FITZHUGH KAROL, APPROACH, 2020

Welded Steel, 30' x 8' x 13'

“Approach” was fabricated using reclaimed material from the demolished Tappan Zee Bridge. Once the material was received at our shop in Staatsburg, New York, we processed it by cutting and grinding the pieces to their required forms. Each component of the work was made according to a 3D Model that was used to ensure the sculpture would arrive on site and land on its concrete footings. The final finish is weathered steel with a UV-inhibiting lacquer, over which an anti graffiti coating is applied. The coating system was developed in collaboration with Monumenta LLC.
